St Bartholomew's Church

See landmarks page for location

June 2004. Work hasn't begun, this is the old entrance to the station car park on Mangalore way / Cheapside.

June 2004. Looking over the old carpark. In front of the church is a primarly school, next to the school - on the left - we cam just see the edge of the London Road car park (with a council green sign on it). Notice the blue building in the car park, not the one in the foreground (which is on the platforms and used to store food for on-board catering) but the one in the middle right, in the car park. I'm not sure what it was used for, either storage or offices/staff areas. Notice also a gap between where the cars are parked (nearest to us) and the fence at the car park edge? This space has a number of portacabins which had been there for at least a year. These seemed to be used for offices and staff areas.

Oct 2004. Work has begun. Note Pelham Tower on the right, and in the distance (far right) we can see the American Express building.

Nov 2004. Road taking shape. I think the green in the foreground is part of the 'green strip' which wil run the length of the land to be developed. I think this followed the route of the first London to Brighton line.

Nov 2004. Road taking shape.

Mar 2006. And here we stand on that very road. But note how the view has now changed (for good... or at least for many years to come) and we can no longer see St Bartholomew's from this angle.

Mar 2006. Standing on the new car park's upper floor.

View from Cheapside (back of Sainsburys).
